Rock Climbing in Bristol’s Avon Gorge

​

Avon Gorge is one of the UK’s most recognisable climbing venues.

​

The steep limestone cliffs rise up to 90 metres above the River Avon, creating a dramatic natural landscape right beside the city. From the rock face you’ll climb with views of:

  • the Clifton Suspension Bridge

  • the River Avon below

  • leigh woods

​

Our sessions typically take place on routes at Idleburger Buttress, which offers a variety of climbs suitable for beginners and those new to outdoor climbing. The rock face here provides a great introduction to real limestone climbing with routes up to around 25 - 30 metres high.

This includes:

  • Climbing harness

  • Helmet

  • Climbing ropes and safety systems

  • Rock shoes (limited stock available)

You will also receive a suggested kit list before the session to help you prepare for the conditions.

Weather and Booking Information

​

Outdoor climbing experiences depend on suitable weather conditions.

​

If conditions are not safe for climbing, we will contact participants at least 72 hours before the session and offer the option to change dates.
